Learning to play chords is an essential milestone for any aspiring guitar player. Beginners generally start with basic major and minor chords (such as G, D, Em, and C) then eventually move onto 7th chords (G7, D7, A7, etc). This book gradually introduces students their first 15 chords.
Chords and Music: Songbook Edition
This book teaches the same chords and "Chords and Music: Volume 1". The main difference is that while Volume 1 offers over 100 exercises and about 20 songs, Chords and Music: Songbook Edition offers 40 classic songs that gradually introduce new chords.

This book picks up where Volume One leaves off. Once students know their basic chords, it's time to learn some modern strum patterns and modern voicings of chords (such as Gsus4, Dadd9, Cmaj7, etc.). This book also introduces students to "bass-note strumming" as well as some basic fingerstyle patterns.

Easy Fingerstyle Guitar Songbook for Kids
This book introduces new players to playing fingerstyle guitar. The artwork and mood of the book is geared towards kids, but I often use this book with teens and adults as well who are brand new to fingerstyle guitar since it's such a smooth, gradual approach to the concepts. It has 30 fun and recognizable songs.
